1930s Art Deco Figured Walnut Two Door Compactum Wardrobe
A fine quality antique English Art Deco figured walnut two door compactum wardrobe or gentleman's armoire; dated circa 1930. This piece is in a wonderful original condition and a rare find.
The two-door wardrobe features moulded cornice, stunning mirror-matched figured walnut doors, the original art deco styled brass handles and a brass key escutcheon along with all the original internal fittings.
The doors open to reveal a tie rack on the right-hand door and a small "Studs" tray for storing shirt studs on the left-hand door. The interior consists of a pull out hanging space to the left hand side (the rack comprises 10 x hanging holes), while the right hand side comprises a fitted interior with shelving unit with glass fronted cupboard and 4 trouser arms.
Both doors retain their original brass handles, while the left hand door retains the original internal securing sliding bolts, and the right hand door retains the original working brass lever lock (with working key).
This piece boasts classic art deco styling throughout; this is evident in the overall design of the curved corners, moulded frame, clean lines, the handles, feet and plinth. This is a single piece wardrobe and because of its narrow width, it is ideal for compact rooms, as it consumes little space.
The wardrobe features a mellow figured walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
The wardrobe would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. A great investment as it is both fabulous in design and form whilst being very useful.
