Aesthetic Movement Open Armchair in the manner of E W Godwin
A stunning aesthetic period open armchair or elbow chair in the manner of the celebrated designer E W Godwin (no makers mark present). So much to admire about the design of this chair from the hand turned front legs and stretcher to the gorgeous curves and ribbed detailing of the arms. Not forgetting the rectilinear lattice back rest and cane seat which is in a perfect condition.
Very much in the manner of E. W. Godwin showcasing his preference for elegant lines and simple decoration via the turned spindles and ribbed grooves which created lighter more sculptural forms adhering to principles of the Aesthetic Movement.
Presented in an excellent antique condition. Solid frame, cane work to seat all intact, no wobbles to joints or signs of historic woodworm. Very much fit for purpose.
A fine, handsome and sought-after antique collectors chair.
