Fabulous oil on board by Swedish artist Birger Welander (1916-1985).

Bold, angular style and wonderful use of saturated colour. This is a gorgeous, highly stylised mid-century oil painting.

In excellent condition and presented in the original wooden frame.

Signed by the artist lower right and dated 1952.

About the artist:

Birger Welander was a Swedish artist and student of Isaac Grunewald, one of the brightest stars of Swedish expressionism.

Best known for landscapes and still lifes, Welander had many solo exhibitions throughout the 1940s and ’50s and is represented in many public collections in Sweden.
