Pair of Edwardian Coaching Oils by Philip Rideout (British 1860–1920)

£800.00Price
  • A delightful, fresh-to-market narrative pair of traditional English coaching scenes by the renowned equestrian artist Philip Rideout.

The bottom scene depicts a "Coach and Four" arriving at a traditional timber-framed coaching inn, the guard blowing his horn to signal the changing of the horses. The companion piece shows a coach in full transit, capturing the energy and open-air thrill of 19th-century travel.

Painted in 1908 - the exact year the Ford Model T was introduced -these works represent a poignant, nostalgic look back at a bygone era of British travel just as the motor car was taking over the roads.

Condition & Framing: Both paintings remain housed in their excellent original 1908 frames, offering superb period integrity. As was standard practice for Rideout when executing narrative pairs, one painting is fully signed and dated '1908' to the lower right corner, while its companion piece remains unsigned, intended to be displayed alongside its partner.
