Pair of Victorian Balloon Back Satinwood Chairs
A matched pair of elegant lady's bedroom chairs dating from the Victorian era. The simple delicate frame with two sets of side stretchers and the use of satinwood are features of the boudoir chair of this period. The back upright is waisted just above the seat, widening to a rounded curve at the top rail, forming a balloon shape.
Balloon chairs were popular as dining chairs from the 1830s and were adapted using lighter woods and frames for use in the bedroom and hallway from the 1850s until the end of the 19th century.
This pair are in excellent antique condition with strong joints, no wobbles and the caned seats are in perfect order.
