Gypsy table with ebonised and gilt legs with the original makers label: TH Field and Sons, Berners Street, London. Dated 1837-1871. A sought after and hard to find piece.
Victorian Ebonized and Gilt Gypsy Table
This 19th century gypsy / cricket table is a wonderful antique piece with a great sense of history having been made by TH Field and sons in the mid 19th century. TH Field and Sons were renowned furniture makers and upholsterers between 1837 and 1871 and they exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the International Exhibition of 1862.
The 'gypsy' cover traditionally made from velvet has obviously been removed at some stage as you can still see the tack marks around the table top edge, adding to the character of this piece. This could be replaced or left with the current waxed finish.
Wear is commensurate with age; but this super table is in an excellent antique condition - sturdy, no loose joints or wobbles and the original gilt on the legs is still visible.
