A charming English country-house antique slipper chair.

Antique Slipper Chair – Unusual Open Turned Wood Back, Chintz & Ceramic Castors

£560.00

Unusual late 19th century Victorian slipper chair with an attractive open turned-wood back, floral chintz upholstery and ceramic castors to front and rear.
A charming English country-house accent chair.

A delightful late 19th century Victorian slipper chair, with an unusually attractive exposed mahogany back, pretty floral chintz upholstery and ceramic castors.

What immediately sets this chair apart is its beautiful open wooden back. Three slender turned uprights sit between elegant turned supports, each finished with a charming rounded finial. Unlike the more commonly encountered fully upholstered slipper chairs, this open-back design allows the warm mahogany timber to become an important part of the chair's character and gives it a particularly elegant silhouette.

The chair has handsome turned mahogany legs and retains the original ceramic castors to both the front and rear legs, an especially lovely period detail which also makes the chair easy to move.

The seat is upholstered in a clean floral chintz, with delicate pink and blue flowers and trailing foliage on a soft cream ground. The fabric gives the chair a fresh English country-house feel and works beautifully with the warm, aged timber.

A highly decorative and unusual antique chair, perfect as a bedroom or dressing-room chair, or equally at home as an occasional chair in a sitting room, hallway or country-house interior.

A lovely example for anyone looking for something a little different from the usual fully upholstered Victorian slipper chair.

Condition report:

Good antique condition, with clean chintz upholstery and the expected signs of age and use.
Solid construction and sits well. Comfortable and no wobbles.
