Super smart and stylish tub chair with perfect condition caning. Possibly French; dated c. 1910-20.
Antique Walnut Bergère Library Chair
This beautiful walnut frame bergère tub chair has a lovely shaped back, with a single central support (2 other supports to the rear unseen from the front). The chair is raised on elegant, shaped cabriole legs to the front which feature attractive carved decoration to the top and terminate in pad feet, and simple sabre legs to the rear.
The chair originally had a cane seat (most likely with a squab cushion); but at some time this has been replaced with a drop in seat. The seat is now upholstered in a natural hessian which is in excellent order but could easily be re-upholstered. Overall the chair is in a very good antique condition and is solid of joint with no wobbles and is suitable for everyday use. Wear is commensurate with age and as to be expected with a chair over 100 years old there are a few knocks / scuffs to the walnut frame, but nothing significant.
This wonderful chair would make an attractive addition to any home and would suit a range of locations - library, kitchen, home office, bedroom, bathroom, hall, orangery. A versatile, compact chair.
