A striking and rare large George II fretwork mirror, crafted in walnut with superb original detail and patina. Dating to around 1760, this exceptional 18th-century English wall mirror is a fine example of Georgian period craftsmanship, and a rare find in this impressive size.
The mirror features a beautifully shaped cresting board adorned with a giltwood hoho bird, a classic decorative motif of the era. It retains its original mirror glass, which displays charming foxing and sparkle – a highly desirable quality found only in authentic 250+ year-old glass. The glass is set within a gilt slip and finely crossgrain-moulded walnut inner frame.
Complete with its original pine backboards, this antique mirror is in truly original condition, making it a highly decorative and collectible piece.
