Hajime Miyashita, born 1940 and now retired, has won many awards for his Kokeshi dolls.
Kokeshi are made using traditional carving methods from Cherry and Mizuki trees and hand-painted. Originally made in Japan hundreds of years ago, Kokeshi Dolls remain popular today.
