A striking late 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a family of bullfighters (toreros) in a domestic interior, copied after Fernando Botero's celebrated 1985 composition Family Scene.
The original Family Scene was painted by Fernando Botero in 1985 and depicts an extended family and entourage associated with the world of bullfighting, including toreros, picadores and banderilleros. The original, which measures 169 × 179 cm, was exhibited and published extensively and was subsequently sold at Christie's New York.
This example closely follows Botero's original composition, including the four principal figures, the bull's head mounted on the wall, the bullfighting equipment and the charming miniature figure at the lower right.
Painted in oils on canvas and presented in an impressive ornate gilt frame, the work has considerable decorative presence. The vivid colour palette works particularly well against the substantial period frame.
An unusual and highly decorative piece of Latin American-inspired figurative art, with particular appeal to collectors of bullfighting imagery, Botero-influenced art and eclectic interiors.
